Australian cricketer and all-rounder Andrew Symonds has died in a car crash.
Cricket Australia announced on Sunday, local time. This is another sad event in
the world of Australian sports after the deaths of Shane Warne and Rod Marsh.
Marsh and Warne died on the same day, March 4.
Andrew
Symonds, (46), was died in a car crash near Townsville, Queensland on Saturday
night. The crash happened about 50 kilometers from downtown Townsville, local
police said.
Symonds, who
made his debut in 1998, has played 26 Tests, 198 ODIs, and 14 T20Is in his
11-year international career. The all-rounder has 6,006 runs and 175 wickets in
his international career.
Police and
rescue teams say the car rolled off the road after the crash. Andrew Symonds
died of his injuries.
Former
international cricketer Andrew Symonds has been confirmed dead in the crash,
according to police and cricket sources. Petrol Inspector Gavin Oates said the
cause of the crash was not yet known. However, so far no evidence of alcoholism
has been found. "People in the area heard the crash," Oates said.
